Note: July 17, 2021 – Like many people, I was saddened to learn of Brian Boland’s passing. I had the good fortune of interviewing Brian a few years ago for an article that was published in Woodstock Magazine. He was very generous with his time, and a pleasure to talk to. You didn’t have to spend more than a minute with Brian to learn that hot-air ballooning was not just a hobby, but a passion for Brian that provided him a great deal of enjoyment, and also helped get him through some tough times in his life. His ballooning stories seemed to be from a movie script, but they were real; and Brian told them with a humility that communicated how seriously he took the ballooning craft. If you were part of the ballooning world, you knew Brian Boland – or at a minimum you knew his name, his innovations and ballooning career. I know that he will be missed by family and friends alike.
